The Goat´s Rue has been used since the Middle Ages for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, because it contains guanidine which lowers the blood sugar level of a patient. Ideal for horses prone to laminitis, metabolic syndrome or Cushing's disease. According to some studies, native breeds such as Arabian horses and Welsh Mountain ponies are quite insulin resistant. Insulin is a hormone that invites body cells to absorb glucose into the bloodstream. Like humans, the body of the horses may also counteract the effects of insulin, which leads to higher levels of blood circulation circulating sugars. The colon cancer has been shown to reduce absorption of glucose from the intestine, which increases cellular glucose uptake and prevents gluconeogenesis. Glomatogenesis occurs especially in horses suffering from Cushing's disease when higher levels of cortisol in the bloodstream stimulate to pay to digest the stored proteins.
The Goat´s Rue also adds milk production to lactating mares.
In addition, it has features that help to smooth the irregular stroke and treat bladder problems.
